Valentine's Day and a birthday visit from Nana and Poppy

Back in February, my parents came for a short visit over Valentine's Day + weekend. The girls were so excited to have Nana and Poppy there to see all of their Valentine's treasures on the very day they got them. And, boy, were there a lot of treasures. Treasures that stayed with us for days, nay weeks, before we could part with them without mourning.

Quick story: The little girls and I dropped Claire off at school on Valentine's Day, and it was so hard for Lily to see all of the Valentine's fun and fanciness and know that she couldn't stay and participate. I decided to swing through Krispy Kreme on the way home and get her a donut treat. We walked in and discovered that the donut-making apparatus was completely broken down. Seriously? HOW? They were still serving up donuts that were already made, so we stood in line to get one heart donut. Forty minutes we waited. FORTY. Wearing Brynn in the Ergo and trying to keep Lily occupied and happy. Everyone else was trying to get boxes of dozens of donuts, and I was sweating that we would stand in line for that long only to be told that they were out. Everyone around us was having the best time watching Lily and were clearly invested in her getting her heart donut. When we finally got to the front of the line, Lily said "One heart donut, please!" and the gal behind the counter says, "Oh we don't have any." I literally responded (without thinking), "Are you SERIOUS?" because I'd just seen her give the woman in front of me one. "You don't have any heart donuts left??" Everyone around us in line audibly groand and said "No! She's been waiting so patiently!" She really had been. "Oh! She said 'heart.' I thought she said 'hot.'" (note: she clearly said "heart") Krispy Kreme Gal found a pink heart donut, we checked out, and I could not believe that we spent all that time in line...

Dastardly donut

Very excited about her donut

Valentine's-y things

Nana and Poppy got into town in time to go to Claire's dance class! Which also meant we got to walk around and show them our regular haunts during dance.

Last year, Nana and Poppy were visiting over St. Patrick's Day weekend, which is partway between the big girls' birthdays, so they had a little joint birthday party for them. It was a big hit, so Mom and Dad did it again this year.

We also went to a birthday party for a school friend of Claire's...

(This birthday celebration was at Mellow Mushroom...thus this picture.)

...we had chips, cheese, and salsa, per the girls' most frequent request...

Lily, using a tortilla chip as a telephone. AS ONE DOES.

...and did lots of hanging out and playing!

Another super fun visit with our favorite maternal grandparents. Thank you for making the trip, Nana and Poppy!
