Boswells on the Beach

A few weeks ago, we joined all the sharks and enjoyed a week at the beach! Our beach trip (with Brad's family) was planned long before all the sharks made their plans to visit the Carolina shores, just for the record. It was certainly a bummer to watch shark attacks on the Carolina coast steadily pop up in the news immediately before we were headed that way, but alas.

We spent a week on Topsail (pronounced "topsull" by locals) Island and, despite our decision to keep our wading limited to knees and below, had a great time. The weather was fantastic, and we stayed in the most incredible beach house. Since we really couldn't spend too much time swimming or jumping waves (there was literally a shark attack within view of where we were staying- although we didn't actually see it, thank goodness), we came up with lots of other ways to pass the time: HUGE sand pit dug by Grandpa and Claire (read: Grandpa), walks, reading, frisbee, inflatable kiddie pool, kite flying, horse shoes, and bocce ball. We had a really good time, so TAKE THAT, Sharks!

My brother-in-law couldn't join us because he's in medical school and is BUSY, so we missed him (especially Brad...the fellas were greatly outnumbered).

Most of these pictures were taken by my mother-in-law, with a few tossed it from my sister-in-law and me. Enjoy!

This face resulted from the fun game that Gran let Claire play: drink water (Gran's water) and then fountain spit it all over Gran and the snow (what Claire calls the sand).

Contemplating the deep things of life.

Important work to be done. Read: knock over every sand edifice Grandpa attempts to build.

Morning snack on our beautiful boardwalk.

Hanging with Ray Ray while waiting for dinner. And yes, we do, in fact, NEED a snack while waiting for dinner.

Don't you like Brad's fancy hair...er...palm tree background?

Serious digging face.

The Hole. I mean, the "sand castle."

Fun with Ray Ray. Rachael is way more willing to sacrifice herself for fun and games than others of us. Exhibit A: Me in the background...making a sandwich and NOT doing acrobatics with Claire.

Valiant attempt at a family dinner shot. If only everyone could look and smile at the camera at the same time.

Family shot #398746. It would be easier if some of us would just look at the camera and smile (ahem, Claire).

Barbara, Claire, and Alexis.

Rachael, Claire, and Barbara.

Matchy matchy.

Grandpa and Claire.

Frisbee hat!

Watching Cars with Ray Ray.

Kiddie pool, shark-free fun.

And this is how we feel about the beach! Thanks for a wonderful trip, Boswell family!

Just another friendly reminder that I'm still playing catch-up. Clearly, it is not currently July... We made another annual trip to Tops...
