LILY-ISMS: January 2019 edition

The downside of typing up Lily's quotes is that I cannot convey the facial expressions that *truly make* the quotes. They're SO GOOD, those faces.

Lily: We need to go to the ZOO!
Claire: We can't, Lily. It's closed.
Lily: We need to open it!

Bye, Christmas tree! Bye!
After packing the tree up for storage

Penny bank: piggy bank

I love my shirt with the tail!
A shirt with a flowy peplum

Erin: Lily, you need to finish eating so that we can go to Target.
Lily: No...I want to go to Kee-ya! (Kenya)

Claire: Lily, one day you'll go to school, too.
Lily: Yeah! I'll be a grown-up like you!

Oh my gracious!

Mommy, we need to trim the pencil.
Trim: sharpen

It's too far brown!

Thank you for saving the mermaid! You are a good saving girl, Mommy.

Erin: Hey Lil, where did that scar come from?
Lily: A lion bited me on the leg!

We'll find it later...Lily and Brad!
A pronouncement of her confidence in a dynamic duo with her Daddy to find something that went missing

Don't go to Mrs. Deb's! I don't want to miss you!
To me, as I was leaving for a small group gathering

To Brad, as he left for a morning run
Bye! Have a nice trip!

Claire's bat! I love it so much!
A plastic bat (the animal) from a Halloween goody bag. SOMEHOW it became a coveted plaything at our house.

I had a cold and cleared my throat.
Mommy, why are you growling?

Babies no can drive trains. Little girls can drive trains. Not babies.

Brad was making muffins, and Lily wanted one before they were baked.
Brad: No, Lily, I have to bake it first.
Lily: No! Not for the bake sale! We eat them!
Apparently, she latched on to the concept of a bake sale (we participated in one for school in the fall) and was concerned he was going to give away her muffins. Bake...bake sale...same same.

Brought a blanket to me on the couch, climbed up next to me
You gotta share with Lily.

Offering Brynna a Cheerio
Here, Brynnie, say "ah."

Claire: Lily, can I have the cow?
Lily: You sure can!

Lily: No, I tee tee. Cannot change it.

Erin: Lily, your pants have a hole in them.
Lily: It got put there by a lion.

At the front door, banging on the storm door
Erin: Don't hit the door, babe.
Lily: I need to say hi to squirrels!

Lily: Yes! You go get my shoes!

Around here lately: January 2019 edition

I spend every day with Claire, and I'm still tickled- regularly- by what she says. She's such a delight, y'all.

And don't you dare talk to me about how grown up she looks. We will not be friends anymore if you do.

To Brad, about his doctoral program
Is your job almost worn out?

Erin: Don't spill your yogurt on your clothes.
Claire: They are too magnificent to get dirty!

Mommy, when you did your back like that, Brynna had the biggest roller coaster time!
I was wearing Brynn in the Ergo carrier on my back and must have given her quite the ride while trying to do something.

Erin: That's really sad.
Claire: It's ok, Mommy. The ending is happy!

Claire: Why is it called a rainbow?
Erin explains how rainbows are made + what a bow is.
Claire: Well, it's not a bow. It's a headband!

The groceries are in line!
On the conveyor belt

I hope Ray Ray gets a glass door so she can see when Addie is done going potty and eating grass so she can let her in.
Her hopes and dreams for Rachael's future home, in reference to Rachael's dog.

To Lily
Oh my goodness, child! Your face is so messy!

I really do want to go outside and ride my bike. I believe it is the perfect day.

Well, looks like you have Cheerio duty, Daddy.
Giving Cheerios to Brynn.

Mommy, this tastes magnaful!

Playing The Amazing Race with Lily
Let's pretend that we're the team that missed the plane! Hurry, Lily!

Playing The Amazing Race, running around the "airport"
CONTINUE! We have to catch our plane!

Be-noculars: Binoculars

Maybe if I practice riding my bike, I can ride a motor bike one day. But not until I'm older. Like thirty or forty. I think forty.

Spinach is really good for your body. It keeps some of the snots away.

Mommy, <boy in her class> was saying that he's not good at anything. So I sang him the Ellie song to tell him that God loves him and that he's wonderfully made.
Ellie Holcomb's song "Sing." I cannot recommend this album enough. Acquire it for all of the children in your life. And also, my heart nearly exploded when she told me this story.

A cowgirl is always prepared. You get your slinger ready.
slinger: lasso

I came in first place, and you came in second first place.

Doing a "photo shoot" together, using a kaleidoscope and a diaper box

I like the animals with the dresses.
The loveys that are basically a stuffed animal head sewn onto a small blanket. Which kind of looks like a dress.

He's falling with style, Mommy!
Buzz Lightyear falling through the sky on Toy Story

Is that shoe waiting its turn?
Referring to Brad's shoes while he was shining them

Blue Car is in charge of the bedroom toys. I told him the directions of what to do.

Lily went on a solo trip to Gran's and Grandpa's. Claire took it hard at first.
But Mommy...Lily is my whole world!

Claire: Oh. My. Word.
Erin: What??
Claire: Brynna. She's SO BEAUTIFUL!

Thank heaven's sake I'm not eating that!

Can we turn the hot air conditioning on?
hot air conditioning: heat

I see black stratus clouds in the sky.

Homemade: Old Maid

To herself while we're playing Old Maid
Please don't get homemade, Claire, please don't get homemade...

I'm going to tell my school friends that God has a story and that they're in it.
*This is one of my favorites ever.*

Oh my stinky sock!
Said like you would say "Oh my goodness!"

Driving past a golf course, noticing a "golf cart crossing" sign
Oh, there's a sign I haven't seen before. It means "let the farmer pass."

When Brynna is in her carriage, she's camouflaged.
carriage: car seat/baby carrier

This bear is a pretty, cinnamon-y-ish color.

Dressed as a "cowgirl."

I want to be a panda bear meteorologist. That's someone who plays with panda bears.

Lily, you look so beautiful, and you're so soft!

Brynna's hair looks like a turkey tail!
Car seat cowlick

Lily: I got a sprinkle donut with Ray Ray. In TN on her solo trip
Claire: Um...I didn't see a picture of THAT.

Christmas in Tennessee 2018

I realize we're halfway through February, I'm GOING to finish writing about Christmas, guys.

Christmas at the Boswells was very fun and lively...though fraught with illness. Lily had croup, Brynn had a terrible cold and high fever, and I got some variant of whatever Brynn had. Lots of coughing and nose-blowing. Golly, December was a hard one for us, health-wise.

But, we had all of our usual fun and really enjoyed time together. We worked puzzles, played with Brad's/Tim's/Rachael's toys of years gone by, ate special seasonal snacks, watched a few movies, and generally did all the fun things.

One of these girls is enjoying this snuggle more than the other. I'll let you decide who.

We took family pictures of our own selves, so please enjoy the following montage of setup shots + actual shots + failed attempts. Bless it.

The Boswell boys. I'm partial to that one with the glasses.

Sweet snapshots

Classic Lily face and hand

Tim and Rachael were smiling with both eyes open...not so much the rest of us.

The winner

Claire and Lily were less than enthused in this shot, and it's hilarious to me. Pretty sure Brynn is eating Claire's hair.

Sweeties

Brynn was definitely pulling Claire's hair in this one.

Winner!

They let me join!

Behind the scenes

The siblings

Everyone is looking and smiling. I am victorious.

They let me join again. :)

Christmas morning situations are so fun at these ages. They are so enthusiastic and excited and say the funniest things. Christmas morning at Gran's and Grandpa's was no exception to the fun and hilarity.

Stockings!

Just chillin' with some of her haul.

Our week really was broken up quite a bit with all the illness, particularly Brynnie, but we did have some moments when she was happy and smiley:

Can you see my SO TIRED eyes? Because I was SO TIRED.

And Lily was regularly up to shenanigans (what else would you expect?).

And Claire, enjoying one of their joint gifts (magnetic building tiles):

When Tim was a kid, he and a group of friends decorated gingerbread houses every year. He's done it with the girls for several years now, which they love:

Not sure how much candy Lily built with, but she definitely ate a lot.

We visited with Brad's Mamaw several times while in town:

And the girls got to wear their Christmas dresses again, this time to Gran's church. Please enjoy the following montage:

Brynn and I didn't make it to church (#sosick), but Brad very sweetly made a point to snag a couple pictures in front of this little vignette at church (he knew I'd love it):

A very merry Christmas! So enjoyed by all. Thank you for everything, Gran and Grandpa!

And this concludes The Great Christmas Recap of 2018. Thank you for your patience.

Boswell beach trip 2022: part 1

Just another friendly reminder that I'm still playing catch-up. Clearly, it is not currently July... We made another annual trip to Tops...
