Letter to my Baby Brynn: 9 Months

Brynnie,

What an absolute delight you are, Brynnie-Baby! We are having so much fun with you! It helps that you love to play and be silly and fun. You've been especially into playing "touch heads" (you tap your forehead to ours- can sometimes be confused for an aggressive head butt) and "silly blinking" (you blink and make silly faces). It makes me laugh every single time.

Maybe my most favorite thing that you do when you're happy? You sing! You love music, and you try your very hardest to sing along. It is so joyful and happy, and I stop what I'm doing to listen to you every time you burst into song.
Related: You get unbelievably excited when you hear the theme song to Curious George. You "clap" your feet and squeal with delight!

You've also started to show more interest in toys recently. We set out a basket full of baby toys in the living room so that you can sit and play alongside Claire and Lily. Speaking of "sitting and playing," you've become more and more adept at sitting up unassisted. You're still uninterested in crawling (FINE BY ME), and occasionally, you'll decide to throw yourself backward (who knows why?), so we keep a couple throw pillows behind you to avoid a catastrophe of head smacking floor. It keeps me on my toes.

Your sisters gathered that massive pile of toys for you.

A few weeks ago, you got to experience what it would be like to be a second-born (i.e. Lily spent the week at Gran's and Grandpa's house). You really seemed to enjoy some extra quality time with Claire. The two of you have a really sweet relationship; she loves to make you smile, and you love to smile at her. It's precious, and I love it.

The week after Lily's Great Adventure, you went with Daddy and me to spend a few days on the Outer Banks. You *mostly* enjoyed it. It was pretty chilly in our beach house, you didn't like sleeping in the pack-n-play, and I think you missed your sisters, but you were a big hit everywhere we went. Everyone thought you were completely adorable (you were), and you reveled in the attention.

Love from Gran after OBX

The Sunday before we left for the OBX, you spent your first Sunday in the church nursery. You did great, and the workers LOVED you! Maybe not-so-coincidentally, you developed a cold which turned into, what I think was, croup. We had a very rough week of not sleeping, you and I. It was so sad: you couldn't breathe, were coughing incessantly, and were so unhappy. It took almost a full week for us to recover. Let's not do that again.

Sick baby

Sick Day George Viewing

You still have quite the complicated relationship with food- a phenomenon that we cannot understand. I regularly offer new-to-you foods and what we're eating at meal times, and you regularly turn your nose up (literally turn your nose up) at my offerings. There are a few things that you'll always eat (Cheerios, oyster crackers, cheese, yogurt, and apple-beet sauce), but anything else is an absolute gamble. I need you to hear me: we don't have room for picky palates in this family. Do with that what you will, ma'am.

Golly, we love you. You make our lives richer every day.
Love,
Mommy

Boswell beach trip 2022: part 1

Just another friendly reminder that I'm still playing catch-up. Clearly, it is not currently July... We made another annual trip to Tops...
