LILY-ISMS: October 2018 edition

Claire isn't the only one who has been up to verbal shenanigans. Enjoy!

While playing with Claire
Lily: Claire's trapped! Claire's trapped!
Erin: Go help her!
Lily: NOPE.

My ribbit wants to hop.
Ribbit = frog

Come on! Join us!
Welcoming other parents and siblings to wait with us outside Claire's classroom at pick-up time

I neeeeeeed push buttons!
Referring to wanting to push buttons on my steering wheel while we sat in the (parked) car

I wike your fring!
I like your ring.

Listen to that music on my chin!
Holding headphones up to chin

Mommy, don't go!
Every day at nap time

Wouldn't smile...but gave me this look

Mommy, I so tired.
Not heard often around here, so when she said it, I had to note it.

Wakey: Ukulele

Oh. Ruth fell. Gravity. On Brynnie.
Her stuffed lamb (Ruth from The Star) fell off the coffee table (not onto but) near Brynn. And she's right: gravity did it.

I fell down tent.
I knocked over the tent.

Mommy...is that you?
Upon seeing me walk in her room after nap

Notices Brynn is absent
Where's the other one?

Picks up a piece of roasted sweet potato, cut into a semi-circle
Pirate hat! Pirate hat!

Owl wings! Owl wings!
Two triangles of cheese quesadilla flapping through the air

Sees a picture of Princess Eugenie's wedding dress
Oh...Precious!

I no can reach!

Asking about my food- that I was actively eating- that she wanted

Wash cloth: Brynn's burp cloth

Bre-bra: Zebra

I got a great dee-ah!
I've got a great idea!

Besh: Fish

Or-port: Airport

A triangle! YAY!
Climbed onto the couch and snuggled into my leg "triangle" (bent legs while laying down)

I need to love Nana and give her kiss. And I need Poppy.

After she helped me get Brynnie's weekly picture, she wanted to get in on it.

Dance your shoes, Claire!
Kick along to the beat of the song in the car

Chop chop: Chip clip

Trums: crumbs

After I emptied the dishwasher, she wanted her animals to play on the "playground." We did this for a solid hour. Who knew that was possible?

Emeo: oatmeal

My animals going to Kee-ya!
My animals are going to Kenya!

Mommy, wow! Yours room 'mazing!

My Mom always sings "Stand Up! Stand Up for Jesus!" when she helps the girls stand up after diaper changes/clothing changes. Lily's take when she had a request of me:
Pick...me UP...for JESUS! (sung to the proper tune)

Lily was in a very temperamental mood.
Erin: Don't poke the bear, Claire. (referring to Claire somewhat provoking Lily)
Lily: Don't poke me, Claire! I bear! RAWR!

Lily: Numbers on your water bottle want to go somewhere. (Numbers = letters)
Erin: Where do they want to go?
Lily: Costco.

I love my tree friends!
Referring to some trees that she found beautiful

We're boo-boos.
Referring to herself and Brynna. I call them both "boo-boo" or "boo" pretty often.

Erin: Do you like your soup, Lily?
Lily: Yes! Thank you for my soup.
Pause
Lily: Mommy, you say (switches to high-pitch, fake voice) "you're welcome soup, Lily!"

Brad and I hug each other.
Awww...they yike each ovver.
Awww...they like each other.

Lily is truly a delightful little toddler. She is so kind, unbelievably grateful for everything, and seeks to include everyone in everything. Everyone is invited into her group and to be her friend. We pray that this is always her way.

Around here lately: October 2018 edition

It may be halfway through the next month, but BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, FOLKS.

This is going to be so fun out of my brain!
Remarking on her excitement in anticipation of the school Halloween parade

Sunny fog
Strong sunbeams coming through the tinted window

If we gave away sisters, that would hurt my feelings.
I have absolutely no idea why this was said.

Aw...I really like when people say nice things to snuggling buddies!

Telling a story
Then along came a girl named Claire, which is me...It's like "The Billy Goats Gruff" but with a Daddy Monster and a sock.

To me
What do you want to play? Want to play tickling? I know you can tickle.

First time in sponge rollers!

In reference to a movie we were streaming that was freezing up
Erin: Sometimes this happens, y'all.
Claire: But it's been happening for hundreds of miles of years.

Could you turn it up just one more inch high?
Volume of music in the van

Fawkes is trying to go to sleep peacefully.
Referring to a stuffed Fawkes the Phoenix in her bed

When I'm bigger, I'll still be a kid, but I'll be a grown-uppish kid.

Claire: I really want a bruvver.
Erin: Um, Claire, I don't think that will happen.
Claire: Well, God is the powerful one, and He can do it if He wants to.

Claire: I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but I don't really like vanilla. I don't like it's color.
Erin: What color is best?
Claire: Chocolate!

It hurts my feelings if we have to move away from our house. Can we take everything? Even the containment center?
I'm not entirely sure why she's concerned about this, as we have no immediate plans to move anywhere. And, the "containment center" is our entertainment center, which Brad constructed to look built-in. I'm assuming that's why she's concerned about it.

Claire: When we move out of our house, can we live in an apartment? They are bigger.
Erin: The building is bigger, but apartments are smaller.
Claire: Ok, we can live in just the building, then.

Claire: It's a chef's hat.
Erin: A toque.
Claire: No, it's a CHEF'S HAT.

Claire: Flippy (stuffed fish) is different than me.
Erin: ?
Claire: She is a fish, and I'm not. She has scales, and I don't. I don't have a dorsal fin...we're different.

Evaluating Mom's discarded sandwich bread, a la The Great British Baking Show
Claire: Mmm...buttery. Nice crust. Well done!
Nana: Claire, you sound like Paul! (host on GBBS)
Claire: No, Nana. "Poll." (her interpretation of a British pronunciation of "Paul")

Commenting on a line from Boss Baby
Boring being a grown-up? That is just odd!

Preparing to throw out her old toothbrush and replace with a new one.
Kisses old toothbrush.
We've had a lot of good times together!

Contestant on GBBS injured her finger
Oh NO! Poor Kate!

Reading sentences my mom wrote out for her to practice reading. Reads one that is about me.
I bet you're so excited to be in the notes!

Watching El Macho on Despicable Me 2
Poppy: Why would anyone do that?
Claire: Who can know this mystery?

Daddy, are you tired? Aw...look at him sleep.

After repositioning Brynna's head in her swing
I moved her head like when you're splitting a rectangle into two triangles. So she can see.
She meant "diagonally."

Trying to set up football teams.

Playing with her Melissa and Doug removable sticker scene book
Oh, Mommy, look! It's a volcano on the mountain hillside! Don't worry. It's far from the animals.

Here's a flock of fish. I mean a school. A school is a flock for fish.

*Talking*
Ends with...
...And I just can't live like that, Mommy.
No idea.

Claire: Who do you want to be for Halloween?
Erin: I want to be Mommy with 3 little girls.
Claire: Um...That's just being yourself.

How about we be the quietest of all to set a good example?
At the movie theater, prior to the movie starting, immediately after being told to stop squealing in delight

Huge gasp
THERE'S A FLAG MAN SIGN! I've never seen one in real life before!
Road work signs. She was delighted. I was less than.

I'm building a gi-mantic tower.

Ok, let's make ourselves thin.
The parking lot at Claire's school is very tight. One time, I said, "Think skinny!" as I was navigating. The next day, Claire tried to reiterate my sentiment.

Golf swinger: golf club

When is Target going to show up?
Apparently, I was taking too long to get to Target...

You're my favorite Mommy in the whole world. I could just eat you up!

This is the best trick-or-treat hunt ever!

Lily is, apparently VERY serious about the Red Sox winning the World Series.

Letter to my Baby Brynn: 6 Months

Happy half-birthday, baby Brynnie!

You were just. born. yesterday.

I seriously am in awe of how quickly your sweet little life has already progressed. You are still the SWEETEST thing, and I literally smile every time I see you. How could I not? Your face lights up every time you see me (and anyone, really), as if I'm the best thing that's ever happened to you. It's just my favorite. And the very best.

One of my favorite moments of your life happened this month. I went into my room during one of your naps, kissed your face (while you were sleeping), and you smiled in your sleep! I know it was a reflexive response, but it was just so wonderful. I wish I had it on video...but that would absolutely have ruined the whole sweet experience.

Developmentally, you've done so well! You've added even more foods to your "Foods Tried" list: tomato soup, carrots, banana, avocado, bread, rice. The tricky thing is that you're still having some difficulty figuring out how to keep it in your mouth + swallow. The enthusiasm is there, but the mechanics aren't quite worked out yet. Even though the food thing is still in process, you join us at (on) the supper table every night in the Bumbo (with tray table- like a big girl).

Hand-eye coordination is coming along, as is your interest in holding toys. Claire and Lily like to try to interest you with all manner of toys, which you love. You're also becoming a more and more proficient roller, getting across the room in a matter of mere moments. You also occasionally get stuck, but you're a real sport about it.

I pulled out the doorway Jenny Jump-up/bouncer a couple weeks ago, and you have been loving it! The biggies really enjoy helping you swing and bounce, and you are just thrilled every time. It also helps you to be a part of whatever is going on in the kitchen and dining room. I'm so happy that you like it so much!

No teeth yet, but your hair is starting to fill in! We're not 100% sure, but it looks like it's strawberry blond. We'll see how it continues. Also, you have found your tongue and stick it out all the time. It is SO FUNNY!

We dressed you up for your very first Halloween this month. I had plans to make you my Brynnie Bunny, but Lily insisted that you were going to be Pascal to her Rapunzel. So, I dressed you as a bunny in the morning and Pascal in the evening. Winners all around!

You make every day brighter and happier just by waking up. We love you so much, Brynna, and could not be more thankful for your life.

Love,
Mommy
