Thanksgiving 2018

As per usual, I'm having to play a great deal of catch-up. So, although it is January, here's this year's (school year, obviously, as we do everything on academic calendars in this family) Thanksgiving roundup. Bless it.

We spent Thanksgiving in Alabama this year. It was sad not to have Amiee with us, but she was able to celebrate with friends/co-workers in Kenya and even made the pecan pie, in true homage to my grandmother. Way to go, Bo!

We made the trip to Alabama in one go (9+ hours) both there and back, rather than stopping for the night in Tennessee. It took forever, but given that Thanksgiving is such a short amount of time, we felt that it was worth it to minimize our time (days) in transit. But woo boy. That's a long time in the car with littles.

Ready to roll (it's not that cold in the car- they just like their hats)

We stopped at a rest area outside of Asheville. I took Claire to the bathroom, while Brad sat with the other two. Brad pulled out his phone to check Google Maps for about one minute (an actual minute), and in that time, Lily scampered off and scaled a small incline. See those yellow leaves on that tree? This photo doesn't show the incline of that hill, but it was steep and she was pretty far up. A fellow traveler walking past on the sidewalk pointed her out to Brad. Sheesh.

I don't have any pictures of actual Thanksgiving things (like turkey...or the well-decorated table...), but I captured snapshots here and there of things that we did. And quite a few restaurants that we ate at (because Huntsville has excellent food). And some friends and family.

Brynna enjoyed watching all the people at The Blue Plate Cafe, while the rest of us ate entirely too much breakfast.

Dinner at Rosie's with the Benefields (who had not met Brynnie until this evening)

Lunch at Papa Gyro's

BBQ at Greenbrier. North Alabamians: how old were you when you found out that ONLY North Alabamians eat white sauce with their bbq? I was 26. I had no idea that it was so extremely regional.

Claire likes to play with sugar/sweetener packets while waiting for food at restaurants.

Found this farm scale outside the bathroom. It's accurate, in case you were wondering.

Photo in front of the mural outside the restaurant. As you do. This concludes our tour of HSV Thanksgiving Break Restaurants.

Playing with Nana and Poppy amidst boxes of things for Amiee

Playing in the dog crate. This was a rather popular past time...
I can't explain these things.

Rainbow hair

Hair cuts for all! Minus Brad. I cut his hair.

Lily (almost surprisingly) sat SO STILL for her haircut. I was very impressed.

Quick walk-around date (plus our third wheel, Brynn) at Bridgestreet

Playing with Winnie (aka making a mess with dog food)

Guys...I don't know what Lily was doing here, but it looks like a stuffed animal Iwo Jima. In front of the dishwasher. I wish I could read her mind when she does stuff like this.

Snoozing.

Both of my aunts, uncles, and a few cousins joined us for Thanksgiving lunch. The girls are always so excited to see Mackenzie and Rosemary (Rosemary is only a couple years older than Claire, so they love having a playmate close to their ages). Mom had matching dresses for the girls, which they loved. It also made for very cute pictures.

She also had this precious little number for Brynnie.

And Brad coordinated with his blue and orange (War Eagle).

Watching a movie on Nana's bed

Winnie joined, too.

In true Brassart form, we started decorating Mom and Dad's tree the day after Thanksgiving. The girls were more than happy to help. You're welcome, parents, for the devil-may-care ornament placements all over the lower half of your tree.

Nothing came of this photo shoot, despite the 40ish pictures taken. C'est la vie.

I love this one.

Here's Lily wearing my nightgown from when I was her age.

The girls were lots of fun, enjoying the holiday fun to the fullest and getting us all excited about Christmas. So thankful for a fun visit and safe travels.

Boswell beach trip 2022: part 1

Just another friendly reminder that I'm still playing catch-up. Clearly, it is not currently July... We made another annual trip to Tops...
