It was cold but very sunny, and I had packed all kinds of snacks, so we were set to go.
The girls really enjoyed climbing on things at this exhibit. I enjoyed the well-thought-out layout and flow of the memorial. It's set up by FDR's different presidential terms and is a kind of timeline, marked by his different quotes and fireside chats.
From the FDR memorial, you follow the sidewalk around the the MLK memorial. I wish I'd been able to get more pictures here, but it coincided with all of the crankiness of impending snack time, so I was trying to hand out snacks while reading and walking around.
I love this imagery of the "stone of hope" coming out of the "mountain of despair."
Continuing around the Basin.
It was a real bummer that the Jefferson memorial was covered in scaffolding the entire time we were in DC. They were cleaning the stone, which, apparently, takes a long time. So, we weren't able to get a nice picture of it at any point, because there was no angle that didn't have scaffolding. What can you do?
The absolute best we could get of the whole family...the children were DONE.
Brynnie, in particular, was DONE.
We left probably just a little past the point of tired and grumpy, but we were able to see three things from my list, so I was plenty happy. And don't worry about Brynn; we took her home, fed her, let her play, and put her down for a nap. She was perfectly fine.
